Wieliczka Salt Mine from Krakow: Fast-Track Ticket, Guided Tour with Transport, or Going Alone?
Updated October 13, 2026 · 6 min read
Book the Wieliczka Salt Mine tour with fast-track ticket unless you specifically want a cheaper transport-only deal. It costs €27.36, groups are limited to 15, and the listing combines the entry ticket, a licensed guide and the option of transport from Krakow or a meeting point in Wieliczka. With 14,369 reviews and a 4.6 rating it is also the most reviewed Wieliczka tour.
The cheaper-looking offers are not always cheaper. The comparison below shows why.
What you are visiting
The mine’s own site describes the tourist route as 3.5 km long, reaching a depth of 135 metres, with more than 800 steps. A guided visit takes two to three hours. The temperature below ground is 17–18 °C, so a jumper is sensible even in August. The mine’s own site says the route does not demand above-average fitness, but the step count is the part people underestimate. Two booking pages say roughly 350 to 380 of the steps come at the start, in one long descent.
Three ways in
| Option | What it covers | Duration | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast-track ticket tour | Entry, licensed guide, small group, transport or meeting point | 2.5–4 hours | €27.36 |
| Guided tour with transport | Shared transport, guide, headset; entry in only one option | 2.5–5 hours | €18.47 |
| Fast-track ticket and guided tour | Ticket and guide; transport only in some options | 2.5–4.5 hours | €42.25 |
The cheapest price does not include the ticket
This is the point worth slowing down for. The listing for the guided tour with transport offers several options. Admission is included only in the option called Admission Included. In the cheaper options the mine’s entry fee, stated on the booking page as 143 PLN per person, must be paid separately before you go in. The €18.47 headline is therefore the price of the ride and the guide. Select the option you actually want and compare the total, not the starting price.
The same listing shows a one-hour coach ride, about 20 minutes of free time, 2.5 hours underground with a mine guide, and about 40 minutes back. A private option with hotel pickup is available for groups of up to 8.
Going on your own
The mine is about 10 km south-east of the centre of Krakow. According to the mine’s own directions you can take the suburban train from Kraków Główny to the Wieliczka Rynek Kopalnia station and walk a few minutes, or bus 304 from the Dworzec Główny Zachód stop, which needs a ticket valid for zones I and II. You then buy a ticket for the mine. One operator’s booking page puts the full adult entry at 143 PLN. On the options listed here the underground part is led by a guide, except for the graduation-tower ticket that the first listing offers as an option.
Going alone is entirely possible. You give up the pickup and the person who handles tickets and timing for you, and you gain nothing on the underground route itself, because the guide leads it either way.
What the fine print says
- Stairs. The listings mention about 800 steps and a long walk of 3.5 km. People with limited mobility or claustrophobia are listed as not suited to the tour on several booking pages; read the notes before you pay.
- Cold. The temperature is 17–18 °C on the mine’s own site, while two listings say 14–16 °C. Bring a layer either way.
- Bags. The mine itself and one booking page limit bags on the underground route to 20 × 20 × 35 cm; another booking page quotes 30 × 20 × 10 cm. Leave the backpack on the coach or at your accommodation.
- Pickup. The Old Town and Kazimierz are restricted traffic zones. If you stay there, the operator may ask you to meet at the nearest reachable point.
- Times. The operator confirms the exact time the day before, and it can change with the availability of the mine’s guides.
Who should pick what
Choose the fast-track ticket tour if you want one booking that settles ticket, guide and transport, and you prefer a small group. Choose the transport and guide option only after you have picked the entry-included variant and checked the total. Choose the fast-track ticket on its own if you are already staying near Wieliczka or have your own car.
The mine pairs naturally with Auschwitz, and the guide to doing both in one day explains whether that is wise. More departures are on the Wieliczka Salt Mine tours page.
